When we yell, raise our tone of voice and/or repeat ourselves, we indicate a lack of faith. We expect negative results. We won't be listened to- history indicates so! To be respectful we need to speak in a firm and friendly way. We must be prepared to follow up and take action if necessary. Yes, we need to get our butt and move. Parenting requires effort. Say what you mean, and mean what you say! When we repeat ourselves we set up children to be poor listeners. Later when they attend school, they expect their teachers to repeat lessons or instructions. They become labelled as having ADD or "Attention Deficit Disorder". In a home where there are poor listeners, communication breaks down, people become agitated and unsettled. Without clear guidelines and structure, these same children become easily distracted and irritating.
